This page lists organizations and resources for fundraising. These places are an excellent starting point if you are seeking funds for a volunteer project.

Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program. Qualified citizens of developing member countries of the Asian Development Bank, who intend to pursue post-graduate studies in selected disciplines are invited to apply for scholarships under the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program. It is anticipated that upon successful completion of their graduate studies under the Program, the scholars will return to their countries and contribute to its socio-economic development. Scholarships are awarded for graduate studies at designated institutions in courses of study approved by ADB. The Program especially welcomes women applicants who are qualified but have limited financial means to obtain university education.

The British Chevening Scholarships. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), these awards enable overseas students to study in the United Kingdom. The scholarshps are offered in more than 150 countries and enable talented graduates and young professionals to become familiar with the UK and to gain skills which will benefit their countries.

Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). CIHR is Canada's major federal funding agency for health research. The thirteen Institutes of CIHR encourage interdisciplinary, integrative health research. Each Institute includes fundamental bio-medical research, clinical research, and research respecting health systems, health services, the health of populations, societal and cultural dimensions of health and environmental influences on health.

Applicants for grants must be engaged in health research.

Canadian International Development Agency Awards Program. The purpose of the CIDA Awards Program is to give Canadians the opportunity to contribute to the implementation of CIDA's development priorities and to enhance the professional, technical and cross-cultural skills of Canadians who wish to develop expertise in international development.

Chateaubriand Scholarship Program. The French Government awards scholarships to conduct research in France.

China-Canada Scholars Exchange Program. This is an official exchange program between the governments of Canada and China. It allows Chinese faculty and doctoral students to spend between four and twelve months in Canada to increase their knowledge in the field of Canadian studies.

Chinese Culture Research Fellowship. Chinese Culture Research Fellowship aims at sponsoring foreign experts engaged in study of Chinese culture to further their understanding of modern China, to deepen their research of the long and profound Chinese culture and tradition, so as to enhance the friendship between the Chinese people and people from all over the world. The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as the CSC) is entrusted by the State Education Commission of China to take charge of the applications for and management of this scholarship. The CSC welcomes researchers and experts from all over the world to come to China to carry out research and co-operation.

Council on Foreign Relations. The International Affairs Fellowship Program is designed to advance the professional development of outstanding young Americans between the ages of 27 and 35. Each year, approximately a dozen men and women receive an opportunity to broaden their experience in the field of international affairs and to add a unique dimension to their careers. The fellowships seek to bridge the gap between thought and action in foreign policy by supporting both a variety of policy studies and active exposure to policymaking.

Foreign Government Awards Program. As part of the implementation of cultural agreements with the Government of Canada, the governments of Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Korea, Mexico, the Philippines, and Russia will offer awards to Canadian graduate students. These awards have been combined to form the Foreign Government Awards (FGA) Program, which has been administered by the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) since 1989.

Generally, the Foreign Government Awards are intended to assist Canadian students to further their studies or conduct research abroad at the master's, doctoral or postdoctoral level, and usually cover a period of at least six months. The Government of Italy offers short-term scholarships (less than two months), for Italian language and culture courses. Most countries offer a wide selection of disciplines to which awards may be applied, but not all countries offer awards for all disciplines. The governments of Japan and Russia also offer awards for undergraduate studies.

IDRC Journalism Award at Gemini. Established in 1983, this award is given by IDRC to permit research by Canadian journalists into issues related to international development, giving them the opportunity to become familiar with the concerns and priorities of the South.

International Federation of University Women. IFUW fellowships and grants are open only to women graduates who are members of the International Federation. The awards are intended to help finance short graduate and post-graduate study, research and training projects and to serve as complementary funds for longer programmes.

Italian Foreign Citizens Scholarships. Every year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs grants foreign citizens or stateless persons, as well as Italian citizens permanently residing abroad (IRE), scholarships for under-graduate and post-graduate university studies.

J.B.C. Watkins Award. Funded from a bequest of the late John B.C. Watkins to assist artists who wish to carry out their postgraduate studies in Denmark, Norway, Sweden or Iceland. Adapted with the agreement of the trustee of the estate, to accept applications for graduate studies in any country other than Canada, if the above-mentioned nations are not the destinations of any eligible applicants. Grants are available to professional Canadian artists in any field who are graduates of a Canadian university, post-secondary art institution or training school. Awards may be given in music, media arts, theatre and visual arts (architecture only).

John G. Bene Fellowship in Community Forestry. This Fellowship provides assistance to Canadian graduate students undertaking research on the relationship of forest resources to the social, economic, cultural and environmental welfare of people in developing countries. The award must be used, at least in part, to help fund field research in a developing country. The successful candidate will be the one whose work most benefits the lives of the less privileged people in the developing country.

John Simon Guggenheim Fellowships. The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation provides fellowships for advanced professionals in all fields (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, creative arts) except the performing arts. Fellowships are not available for students.

The Foundation only supports individuals. It does not make grants to institutions or organizations.

The Foundation selects its Fellows on the basis of two separate competitions, one for the United States and Canada, the other for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Monbusho Graduate Scholarship. Monbusho is the Japanese Government Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture. The Monbusho Scholarship enables foreign students from 110 countries to study the Japanese universities.

The graduate scholarship is available to U.S. citizens who are less than thirty-five years of age and have completed their Bachelor of Arts degree by the time of their proposed departure. Applicants should have a working knowledge of the Japanese language and their study area must be the same field at their undergraduate work. Applicants may elect to study in Japan for either a term of two years or one and a half years.

Monbusho In-Service Scholarship. Monbusho is the Japanese Government Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture. The Monbusho Scholarship enables foreign students from 110 countries to study the Japanese universities.

The in-service training for teachers scholarship is available to U.S. citizens who are experienced teachers and less than thirty-five years of age. Applicants must have a good command of the Japanese language and be willing to study in Japan for 21 months at the university selected by Monbusho.

Monbusho Senshu Gakko Scholarship. The Japanese Government Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture (Monbusho) sponsors the Monbusho Scholarship to enable foreign students from 110 countries to study Japanese language and culture at the undergraduate level, to train in methods of teaching Japanese as a foreign language, and to research a broad range of topics at the graduate level in Japanese universities.

The senshu gakko scholarship is available to U.S. citizens who are at least eighteen years of age and less than twenty-two years of age and have completed 12 years of schooling, and wish to study at a professional training school in the fields of engineering, telecommunication, hotel management, fashion, photography, architecture, electronics, nutrition, or design in Japan. Applicants must be willing to study the Japanese language.

Monbusho Undergraduate Scholarship. Monbusho is the Japanese Government Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture. The Monbusho Scholarship enables foreign students from 110 countries to study the Japanese universities.

The undergraduate scholarship is available to U.S. citizens who are at least eighteen years of age and less than thirty years of age, focusing on Japanese language and culture and are interested in spending generally their third year of collegiate schooling in Japan. Applicants must have a good command of the Japanese language and be willing to study in Japan for one year in the university selected by Monbusho.

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. NSERC supports nearly 16,000 students and fellows in their advanced studies each year, and supports discovery by funding more than 9,700 researchers.

Pacific Cultural Foundation Seminar Grant in Chinese Studies. To encourage foreign scholars in the free world to pursue research in Chinese culture, history and contemporary problems, behavioural sciences, business management, art, ecology, economics, culture, education, history, journalism, linguistics, literature, music, education, philosophy, sociology, criminology, religion, political science, performing arts.

Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships. The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. Today, the program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with local Rotarians and others the experiences that led to greater understanding of their host countries.

Sokrates International Exchange Program. This program supports student exchanges between European countries.

Swedish Institute Guest Scholarship. Granted for all subject areas, but only for studies/research which cannot equally well be pursued in countries other than Sweden. The scholarships are open to foreign students/researchers who wish to come to Sweden as guest students and who do not intend to settle permanently in Sweden.

Citizens from any part of the world, except from the Nordic countries, i.e. Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, can apply.

Viscount Bennett Fellowship. Up to $20,000 may be paid annually as a fellowship for graduate study in law in an institution of higher learning to be approved by the committee. The fellowship is open to a Canadian citizen who has graduated from an approved law school in Canada or who at time of application is pursuing final year studies as an undergraduate student at an approved law school.
